With the rapid rise of the language service industry, concepts such as big data, artificial intelligence and machine translation are quickly integrating into every aspect of human life.Owing to the fact that the translator pays close attention to the development of machine translation, and thus particularly selects Professor Lynne Bowker's new academic monograph published in 2019,Machine Translation and Global Research: Towards Improved Machine Translation Literacy in the Scholarly Community, whose aim is to teach scholars some useful techniques that can help them take advantages of machine translation, preferably supporting their own professional development and developing international academic communication and cooperation with higher-efficiency.Thereinto,chapter 2 and chapter 5 are selected as excerpts to present on basis of their moderate volume, distinctive linguistic features as well as detailed description towards the development of machine translation and the framework for machine translation literacy. In general, translation process is divided into three parts: preparation before translation, text processing in translation and proofreading after translation.During the text processing,computer-aided tools, for example,SDL Trados Studio, are employed to facilitate the procedures, improve the efficiency of translation and manage the language assets. Moreover, under the implications of Katharina Reiss' s text type theory, the content is classified into informative text whose main function is to provide the target readers with clear and concise information, therefore high attention is paid to conveying the connotation of the source language in a plain and simple language while reserving professionalism of core terminology, and some translation strategies such as addition, omission, annotation and zero translation are used properly to solve difficulties in the translation as well as improve the overall quality of target language. In brief, the report of translation combines the theory with practice closely, and it is hoped that it would be helpful and referential to the translation of similar informative text.
