A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Non-Predicate Verbs In Macy's 2017 Fact Book

With the rapid development of international trade,the study of business English translation has become increasingly important.As a functional text,business text plays a bridge role in international trade communication and has high research value.Macy's 2017 Fact Book belongs to business text.When translating this text,the author finds there are a large number of non-predicate verbs in the text.Therefore,this report mainly studies the Chinese translation of non-predicate verbs in annual fact books.Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory,the author summarizes three translation methods of non-predicate verbs,namely,division,amplification and composition conversion in business text in the process of translating Macy's 2017 Fact Book.Division is the translation of non-predicate verbs into a single clause or sentence.Amplification means the missing elements in the source text are added in the target text.According to its function in the sentence,amplification is divided into grammatical addition and semantic addition.The conversion of sentence elements is to convert the non-predicate verb component in the source text into another when translating into Chinese.By using translation measures,the information in the source text is reproduced in the most natural way in the target language.The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected as follows:(1)Taking the company's fact book which is rarely studied as the research text;(2)Being different from the conventional division structure of non-predicate verbs,this report analyzes the translation of non-predicate verbs from the perspective of translation methods;(3)Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory,the author succeeds in achieving the goal that readers who read the texts with external publicity function have similar responses.While summarizing the translation means of English non-predicate verbs in annual fact books,the paper also sums up the related technical terms in the text to facilitate the understanding of the translation,hoping to provide some references for future translation.
