A Report On The Computer-Aided Translation Of The Mound Builders

As one of the most important art forms,drama has a long history and constitutes an important part of world literature.With the rapid development of computer-aided translation(CAT)technology,some mainstream CAT software has made a great contribution which is hard to make by traditional translation studies in the globalized and localized industries.In this translation practice,the author uses the CAT software SDL Trados Studio 2019 to translate The Mound Builders written by Landford Wilson,ensuring translation quality and improving translation efficiency.Different from other literary forms such as poetry,fiction,prose and so on,drama focuses on the performance,including music,dance,singing,etc.For this reason,drama translation has become a special field in translation studies.Therefore,drama translation needs to take into account both the commonality of drama in literary language and its characteristics in dramatic arts.This thesis first gives a brief introduction to Landford Wilson and his work The Mound Builders.Second,the whole process of translation tasks is expounded,including pre-translation,translation and post-translation,and then CAT software is briefly introduced.Third,the author discusses the practicable application of Justa Holz-Manttari's "Translation Action" theory in perfecting the translation in post-editing.Fourth,the difficulties in this translation practice are analyzed with detailed examples,emphasizing that the translation of subtext should follow the principle of fuzziness,and the translation should reflect the rhythm of the dramatic language and the individuality of the characters.Fifth,the advantages and disadvantages of CAT in the process are pointed out.Finally,the summary of this translation practice is drawn.
