As a common modality of interpreting, simultaneous interpreting with texts has been widely adopted on various occasions, inter alia in speeches at international conferences(Gile 2009:181).With a script at hand, interpreters are expected to deliver the message more naturally and completely. However, they may also be overloaded since they have to keep pace with the script during the interpretation.Words which were not provided in the text should also be handled appropriately and accurately. This report is based on the experience of the author and her partners as SI interpreters at BFSU-UNLP/GSTI 40th Anniversary Celebration.Through analyzing the major difficulties encountered with Gile's Effort Model and the doctrine of simplification as the theoretical framework, the author aims to offer pragmatic coping strategies for SI with texts. The report can be divided into five parts.Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction to the task;Chapter 2 reviews the process of the assignment, including preparation, the interpreting per se and major issues;in Chapter 3,the author elaborates on the theoretical framework based on which a case analysis is carried out in Chapter 4;Chapter 5 concludes the report with a reflection and suggestions.
