A Questionnaire Research On Local Chinese Teachers

At present,the three pedagogy problems(teaching materials,teacher,teaching method)in the field of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages(TCSOL)are the core concerns while research on teachers is one of the main interests.In recent years,scholars began to focus on the study of teachers' teaching anxiety.The author is a Thai local Chinese language teacher and teaching anxiety is a severe problem in my teaching practice with an important impact on myself.The author found that,in addition to the pedagogy theory,teaching anxiety is more likely to have an impact on classroom teaching.Therefore,the author believes that teaching anxiety is a problem worth studying.Although scholars have focused on the problem of teachers' anxiety in the field of TCSOL,the research is often with Chinese nationality teachers,while the group of local Chinese language teachers is overlooked,therefore this is an interesting subject.In terms of theory,this study aims to enrich the research on teachers,especially in the field of teachers' cognition,and make contributions to relevant theories.This study can also effectively explore the anxiety and performance of Thai local Chinese language teachers.Furthermore,the research shall strive to introduce effective measures to further improve the teaching effectiveness of local Chinese language teachers.On the basis of previous studies,this study developed a 70-item questionnaire for measuring the teaching anxiety of Thai local Chinese teachers.The author conducted a questionnaire survey on 133 Thai local Chinese language teachers.Then,the SPSS 23.0 software was used to process the data followed by in-depth interviews with 7 selected participants to obtain detailed information and come to a conclusion.The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows:Firstly,the study found that the overall teaching anxiety of Thai local Chinese language teachers are moderate to high level.Secondly,from the perspective of nine dimensions,the classroom atmosphere and class order dimension cause the highest anxiety in Thai local Chinese language teachers and the issue of classroom fairness is widely valued.Thirdly,due to the influence of Thailand's education culture and system,Thai local Chinese language teachers show high anxiety before and during the preparation stage.However,the adjustment of teaching content did not cause them to feel too anxious.Fourthly,the anxiety level of Thai local Chinese language teachers on language knowledge is at the lowest level,but through the interview,it is found that Thai local Chinese teachers use a large amount of Thai language for teaching in class,they may be to avoid the use of Chinese language due to their anxiety in the lack of language ability.In addition,as mentioned above,the teachers are well-prepared for teaching due to the influence of education and culture,so the anxiety is low on this issue.Fifthly,the study found that age,teaching experience,education background and gender had a significant impact on the level of Thai local Chinese language teachers' teaching anxiety in various dimensions.On the contrary,studying abroad,graduated major,student level and school type had no significant impact on the level of teaching anxiety.Among them,teachers'age and teaching experience first show a negative correlation and then a positive correlation after a certain time,this is caused by an increase in the teachers' additional academic tasks.Finally,the author puts forward specific suggestions:Firstly,the school should give teachers more time to prepare while the education department can actively provide help,such as designing good quality teachers' books.In addition,from the overall system,third parties such as book publishers or editors of teaching materials can provide more teaching resources to assist teachers in their preparation period.Secondly,during class,teachers should first understand the level and needs of all students and try to provide suitable classroom activities.Furthermore,to achieve teaching fairness,teachers should constantly adjust their teaching strategies according to the changes of students and try to meet students'expectations.Thirdly,regarding school evaluation,although in Thailand,there are few unplanned visits to the classroom,yet in order to completely avoid this anxiety,the teachers shall require visitors to always inform in advance so they can fully prepare.Fourthly,in terms of language knowledge,although the anxiety of teachers is low,teachers should strive use the target language in classroom teaching.
