A Report On The Translation Of Work Wife(Excerpts)

This translation report is based on the translation practice of Chapters 1 and 2 of Work Wife.The book was published in May 2019 by Erica Cerulo and Claire Mazur,the co-founder of Of a Kind.The two authors put their own learning experience,cooperation experience and entrepreneurial experience in the book.In addition,they successfully founded their own company to explore the role of women's friendship in their career success and provided readers with many suggestions.In the first and second chapter,the proportion of long and complex sentences accounts for more than 30%.This is not only a major feature of the book but also a difficulty for the translator in the process of translation.The translation of long and complex sentences has always been an obstacle for translators.Readers cannot appreciate the beauty of the translation and the essence expressed by the original author if not handled properly.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,the translator makes a detailed analysis of the translation of English long and complex sentences through examples and tries to find out the problem-solving skills.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction,which mainly explains the background and significance.The second chapter introduces the translation task,including the introduction of the source text,the authors,and the language features of the source text.The third chapter is the introduction of the translation process,including pre-translation,translating process and post-translation proofreading.At the same time,the use of translation strategies has also been discussed as well as the specific definition and analysis of long and complex sentences in the translation field.The fourth chapter is case analysis.In order to solve the problem of English long and complex sentences in translation practice,the four translation methods of sequential translation,embedding,division and synthesis adopted by the translator are discussed in this chapter.The fifth chapter summarizes the translator's experience accumulated in this translation practice and the limitations of this translation report.The appendix at the end of the report including the original text and the translation are also presented.
