The material translated in this report is selected from the book Automobile Electrical and Electronic Systems, which consists of some main electrical-aided systems, like anti-break system, active suspension system,auto-transmission system and traction control, along with some examples. There are a lot of terminologies and compound sentences in the source text. Thus, for readers,it is not easy for them to understand the meaning of the source text accurately. The purpose of the translation task is to help readers to know about the trend of vehicle technology development, especially technical staffs. As a core theory of the functional approaches in German, the Skopos theory was put forward by Hans Vermeer,a well-known linguist and translator. And it is used to guide the translation practice. The Skopos theory holds the idea that translation is a purposeful activity and the translation strategy should be adopted according to the purpose of the translation. The report uses the three rules(Skopos Rule,Fidelity Rule and Coherence Rule)of Skopos theory to guide the translation practice. The purpose of the report is to improve the quality of the translation by means of adopting some reasonable strategies, like transformation and dividing.Taking Chassis Electrical Systems as the research object, the report is divided into four parts. The first part is the description of the translation task, including study background,a brief introduction about the task and the significance of the report. In the second part,it mainly talks about the process of the translation, which involves the analysis of the source text, methods for translation quality control, parallel text for consulting and the introduction about Skopos theory. The case study will be represented at the third part discussing about three features in the source text, which are lexical features, syntactic features and textual features, along with some strategies for the difficulties met in the translation process. In addition, the certain translation methods adopted in the translation process are elaborated in this part through analyzing the examples selected from the source text. The final part is the conclusion of the report, which analyses the factors affecting the translation process. Some practical experience gained from the translation process is stated again. And some deficiencies and suggestions are given by the report finally.Taking the cases study method as the main research method and the Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance, this report analyses the features of the source text and summarizes the relevant translation strategies appropriate for the translation process.
