A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Robotic Roller Hemming Technology Overview

This report is a Chinese-English translation practice report.It is discussed and analyzed on the basis of the translation project Robotic Roller Hemming Technology Overview provided by the company where author was engaged.As a new assembling technology,robotic roller hemming technology has greatly promoted the development of automobile manufacturing.In the framework of Newmark's Text Typology Theory,the translation practice report regards the robotic roller hemming technology text as case analysis and aims at making a generalization on the translation method to improve the readability of sci-tech text from lexical level,sentential element level,sentential structure level and textual level.Meanwhile,exchanges and cooperation with colleagues on robotic roller hemming technology could be strengthened at home and abroad.The translation practice report is made up of five chapters.Chapter one mainly introduces the background,significance and structure of the translation practice report.Chapter two firstly summarizes and reviews the whole translation process before translation making a brief expression of the preparation including having a brief analysis of source text,making choices of translation methods and translation tools;furthermore,some key and difficult points especially terminology and long and complex sentences are listed in this part combined with parallel texts;finally,the assessment of translation is stressed.Chapter three focuses on the translation theory basis of this report which elaborates the formation and development of Text Typology Theory and illustrates the classification and application of Newmark's Text Typology how the theory provides constructive advice for the practical robotic roller hemming technology text translation.Chapter four concentrates on the case analysis and study of the present translation practice report.In the translation process,the author puts forward the translation methods for the difficulties from the aspect of lexical level,sentential element level,sentential structure level and textual level under the guidance of Text Typology Theory.The chapter five is the summary of this report,which further concludes the translation methods and techniques.From lexical level,for instance,it is suggested to look up terminology from dictionaries and to determine the equivalent vocabulary from parallel text.From the sentential element level,the issue that one sentence exists without subject or with more than one subject ought to be tackled through the adjustment of subject elements.In addition,connectives ought to be utilized to explicit the logic relation of one sentence by following the principle of “conciseness”,“objectivity” and “accuracy” of English for science and technology.From the sentential structure level,especially the long and complex sentence,the author adopts the adjustment of word order and division translation methods pursuing for the hierarchical order and logic property of sentence structure so as to effectively ensure the validity and correctness of the translation.In conclusion,the primary objective of this report is to guide translating activity and improve translation ability for Robotic Roller Hemming Technology Overview from the perspective of Newmark's Theory.In the framework of this perspective,this translation practice report comes to conclusion that the adequate preparation before translation is essential in translation practice.In addition,as the dominant character of the whole translation,the translator's literacy directly determines the quality of translation.Hence,the author hopes that the report would operate the guidance and references for the translator who studies the robotic hemming technology and other relevant fields and enhancing her own translation skills at the same time.
