A Practice Report On The English Translation Of "Global Cryospheric Disasters At High Risk Areas:Impact And Trend"

With the continuous improvement of scientific and technological aids and the continuous enhancement of environmental safety awareness,many research results on cryosphere and its disasters have emerged in the form of scientific and technological documents in China in recent years.The English translation of such documents is an important part of translation studies.This paper is a practice report on the English translation of “Global Cryospheric Disasters at High Risk Areas: Impact and Trend”.Guided by “Plain English”,the original text is translated into English and the translation process is analyzed to explore the problem of “how to apply the principles of ‘Plain English' in the English translation of scientific and technological texts to make the translation concise and clear”.The practice report is divided into four parts.The first part is a brief introduction of the source language version,including its source,main content,translation background and meaning.The second part is the preparation and analysis before translation,including the introduction of “Plain English”,the analysis of text style,the explanation of auxiliary tools,and the description of work flow.In the third part,the translation strategies are analyzed from three aspects: lexical,syntactic,and textual plainness,combined with text cases.In the fourth part,experiences and gains as well as some deficiencies and improvements in the process of English translation are summarized.The practice report is expected to provide reference for the future study of Plain English and the English translation of scientific and technological texts.
