As a global language and a main subject in middle school,English has been always being emphasized by scholars, teachers, students and parents.Through teaching practice,I have noticed that vocabulary is one of the most difficult points for students when they learn English. And the linking verbs about changing is a difficult point and a key point that is hard to break through in middle school learning. The students always get many problems when they are learning linking verbs about changing and it makes the teachers and students puzzled. This reach aims to find out the problems, analyze the reason and give some suggestions.Through reading documents and papers,I compared the linking verbs: get,go,become, turn and grow.It shows that there are differences in their usages, collocations and meanings. Then,I did a survey by testing and questionnaire to collect the errors and to know the learning situation, and found out students' problems that students have in learning the verbs. On the one hand, students have problems in the forms, verb choice and structures. On the other hand, students are lack of learning strategies, motivations and interest and the teaching material and teaching methods need to be improved. After that,I analyze the reason with interlanguage theory, error analysis theory and language transfer theory. It shows that interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, learning environment and learner factors are the main reasons for the problems. After that,I give some suggestions for teaching.Teachers are supposed to improve the teaching methods, treat errors and language transfer properly, optimize curriculum resources, help students to improve their learning motivations and interest and provide the guidance of learning strategies. At last, there is the limitation of the study and suggestions for future research.
