In 2012,Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature, which is undoubtedly a major breakthrough in the Chinese literary world and has aroused strong reactions at home and abroad. Therefore,to translate and conduct a case study of Mo Yan's works is of vital importance. There is no English translation for Mo Yan's Learning from Pu Songling. Most of the existing Works of Mo Yan's English translations are novels. This translation practice project chooses Mo Yan's short story collection like Learning from Pu Songling as its object, which can provide some reference for readers at home and abroad to read Mo Yan's short stories.Skopos theory requires that translation is a kind of destinational behavior and translation purpose determines translation strategies and methods under the constraints of norms. It has a strong guiding significance for translation behavior and is highly operational. The Skopos theory of translation includes Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. With the goal of translating more Mo Yan's literary works to spread Chinese culture and literature, this report firstly analyzes the features of Mo Yan's short story collection???????(????),i.e.,Learning from Pu Songling(the second part).Secondly, based on correct comprehension of the language and cultural characteristics of the original text, the translator, with the guidance of the Skopos theory, selects the integrated translation strategy of domestication and foreignization.Thirdly, from the dimension of three rules of Skopos theory laid down by Vermeer and Reiss and the integrated strategy of domestication and foreignization, the translator discusses corresponding translation methods.Domestication in light of Skopos rule and coherence rule drives the translator to adopt translation methods like sentence reconstruction, omission and explanation in order to cater to the reading habits of the target-language readers, and to make the translation more acceptable to the audience.Foreignization in light of Skopos rule and fidelity rule presents much more complicated situations. When foreignization is consistent with Skopos rule and fidelity rule, the translator applies addition and transliteration to adequately convey the rich culture of the source language.Skopos theory is highly operational and of strong guiding significance for translation behavior, which can guide translators to freely choose translation strategies and methods to achieve their own translation purposes under the constraints of the three rules.
