The material of this translation task derives from Global History and New Polycentric Approaches which was written by Manuel Perez Garcia and Lucio De Sousa.It offers a rich source of global history in sub-continental areas of Europe,Asia(notably China,Japan and the Philippines)and the Americas and aims to help understand the divergences and convergences between the East and the West.The translator picks two chapters from the book.Given the fact that the informative text has its own characteristics,the translator usually needs select the most suitable translation method to achieve consistency between the translation and the original text,thus translators require an accurate understanding and appropriate skills.Lots of infinitives appear in the original text with a great variety of problems,so the author focuses on how to translate the infinitive.To solve the translation difficulties of infinitives,three strategies including pre-position,inversion and division are used to ensure the accuracy and readability of the translation.Considering the characteristics of the text and translation difficulties,Functional Equivalence Theory is applied as the guidance so as to improve the translation.This report aims to provide a reference value for the translation of the informative text.
