Nowadays, when globalization becomes an irresistible trend, cultural integration and international cooperation prevail.Needless to say, language,as a vital communication tool and cultural carrier, plays an important role in all the international events.Naturally, interpretation becomes an indispensable part of various kinds of cross-cultural communication. As a learner of interpretation and an intern in Shenzhen Leaderment Science and Technology Co.,Ltd.,the author had the privilege to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Vice President of the company, and served as the interpreter.Later, the author reflected upon her own performance and set about analyzing the recorded version of the interpretation from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory. Thanks for her endeavor, this thesis has been brought into being. In accordance with the four principles of the Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis discusses the merits and demerits of the author's interpretation practice from four aspects, namely, lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. The author found that only when an interpreter accurately grasps the cultural differences underlying SL(the Source Language)and TT(the Target Text),and has a keen understanding of the audience's feelings, can he/she find from the TT the most natural and closest equivalents with the SL,and eventually produce, with the help of appropriate strategies, fluent target language which successfully achieves the equivalence between the responses of the audience of both the SL and the TT.The author believes that a serious reflection upon her own interpretation practice from the perspective of the Functional Equivalence Theory will not only help the author in improving her professional competence, but also provide other novice interpreters with some insights into the related skills in conducting interpretation tasks.
