Christianity, one of the three major religions in the world, has shaped politics, economics, science, education, culture and art,or every aspect of human civilization.Christian culture has dominated major developed countries, except Japan.China, together with South America,Africa and South Korea have also witnessed the most rapid growth of the number of Christians since the 20 th century.During the rapid growth, sermon,a key activity of Christianity, and its interpreting played an indispensable role.Despite the great importance of sermon interpreting, studies on Christian works have been limited to translated ones, and few focus on their interpreted counterparts. This report, based on a simulated English-Chinese consecutive interpreting of a sermon by John Piper, has important value for research. With the Interpretive Theory as the theoretical basis, the report analyzes seven problems, including dis-fluency,in-cohesion,clumsy expression, information loss, emotional in-equivalence,inappropriate pauses, fillers and pet phrases. In addition,it provides principles on preparation before interpreting and analysis during interpreting. It also suggests that addition and omission be applied to sermon interpreting.Combining theory and practice, the report aims at affirming the role of the Interpretive Theory in guiding sermon interpreting.Meanwhile,in light of the shortness of the theory in emphasizing speakers,it proposes that “a balance between interpreting sense and interpreting speakers should be realized”.
