A Report On The E-C Translation Of Doing Business In Belarus 2018(Chapter 1-2)

Belarus is an important country in the Silk Road Economic Belt and its economic and trade ties with China are increasingly strengthened of late years.However,there is no comprehensive and detailed business information of Belarus in China yet,so Doing Business in Belarus 2018,published by the World Bank,is a critical source of information.Thus accurate and high-quality translation can help the domestic investors and decision makers get interested in Belarus to make sound judgments.The translator was entrusted to translate the first two chapters with 10,815 words during her internship.The translation report consists of 5 chapters starting with the introduction to the translation task: the source,the background and so on;the second chapter mainly analyzes the source text on the basis of 3 features: lexical,syntactic and discourse level and the source text can be classified as an informative text according to the analysis;next chapter is about the translation process,namely,before,while and after translation,coming next is the fourth chapter which is the core of the translation report.Guided by Peter Newmark's text typology theory,communicative and semantic translation are adopted,with citing cases to illustrate how the difficulties at levels of lexicon,syntax and discourse are solved with the help of different translation techniques.At the lexical level,the main difficulties are translation of proper nouns,some abstract nouns and polysemy;at the syntactic level,there are many long sentences with complex structure and passive voice in the source text;at the discourse level,the translation has to achieve textual cohesion and coherence.Specific translation techniques,such as amplification,negation,restructuring and active-passive conversion are applied to solve the difficulties in translation.The last chapter is the conclusion which contains the main findings,limitations and suggestions of translator.This translation practice summarizes the experiences and reflects on the unsolved problems in the project,hoping to provide solutions to future translation of business reports.
