As a new motivation theory,public service motivation(PSM)has become a popular topic in international management academic.In recent years,the studies on the relationship of PSM and job satisfaction are making progress.However,the scholars have different opinions on the mechanism or border of PSM and job satisfaction.Research of the antecedents of PSM suggests that the organizational environment is an important field to cultivate PSM.Job characteristic in organization has significantly influence on the level of individual PSM.This shows that job characteristic may influence on the relationship of PSM and job satisfaction.Hence,this study seeks to examine how employees perceptions of two relational job characteristics-impact on beneficiaries and contact with beneficiaries influence the relationship between public service motivation and job satisfaction.The study comes to the following conclusions: the relational job characteristics has positive impact on the public service motivation.The relational job characteristics has positive impact on job satisfaction.Contact with beneficiaries played as a moderator variable between public service motivation and job satisfaction.Furthermore,job impact on beneficiaries also did significantly influence the association between public service motivation and job satisfaction.This study contributes to reveal the ‘black box' of PSM and improve human resource management in public sector.
