Since the 16 century,the Western Europe entered an age of transformation in military affairs.As an island country,Britain also had the military requirements.Therefore,from the time of Henry viii,the British had consciously absorbed advanced military knowledge from the European continent.Although it is no British army until the mid-1600 s,but the thought about the organizing and training of the armed forces in Britain had reached a level that at the time seemed relatively advanced.As a communication carrier,the military manual played an important role in the spread of continental European military thoughts in Britain.The early modern British military manuals originated from the period of Henry viii and developed in the period of Elizabeth I.By the early 17 th century,a relatively complete system had been formed a relatively complete system.Its content covers the establishment,training,daily management,military engineering,military logistics and many other aspects of various arms,among which the establishment and training of the army is its core content.The purpose of this paper is to understand the popular army organizing and training thought in Britain at that time by analyzing and interpreting several typical military manuals of Britain in the 17 th century.Chapter one mainly describes the background of the emergence of British early modern military manuals,including that the situation at home and abroad in early modern Britain and the brief development of European military doctrine,as well as the development and popularization of printing media in this period.The second chapter is an overall analysis of the appearance of military manuals to help understand their publication status in Britain,author groups of the military manuals and their writing purposes,as well as some characteristics in terms of structure and style.The third chapter and the fourth chapter separately from different aspects of some typical military manuals for interpretation,including the Military scholars' idea of different units such as infantry,cavalry,artillery,include equipment and individual tactics,as well as the popular thought of order of battles,training disciplines and combat formations.To grasp the idea of the British army from the early 17 th century by details.The fifth chapter mainly research the spread and application of various military thoughts reflected in the military manual from the beginning of the 17 th century to the outbreak of the civil war,and further understand the guiding role of military thoughts from the European continent in the construction of the British army.Conclusion is a summary and extend of this paper.Firstly summarized the 16-17 th century continental Europe's military thoughts were spread by military manuals in Britain and its development process.And also explained the British military change's characteristics that combination of top-down and bottom-up.Finally,this paper briefly analyzed the indirect promotion of the development of military thought to the political and economic changes in Britain according to the theory of the relationship between war and politics.
