Investigation And Countermeasures Of Current Application-Oriented Majors' Development In Newly-Established Local Universities In Gansu Province

Under the background of the popularization of China's higher education,whether the new local universities can achieve optimum operation and scientific development has important and far-reaching strategic impact for the long-term development of higher education in China.The transformation from newly established local university into application-oriented university is the main approach to reach scientific development,and the construction of application-oriented majors is an important operational dimension for the transformation of institutions,which should be based on serving the society and respecting the individual needs and development of students,should be based on the direction of economic development,should relying on the development of majors,and should also taking the inherent development needs of the application-oriented majors as its driving force,to exert its cornerstone effect within the transition period of the newly-built local institution,making the new local university adapt to the new situation of the all-round reform and structural adjustment of China's higher education.However,there are some problems appears during the construction of application-oriented majors in newly-built local universities,which affects the effect of training application-oriented individuals.This research focuses on the problems existing during the construction of application-oriented majors in newly established local universities in Gansu Province.Through questionnaires and interviews with teachers,school administrators,and fourth-year students from four representative newly-established local universities in Gansu Province,combined with literature research methods,questionnaire surveys,interviews and many other methods;and separate investigation and analysis of the construction of application-oriented majors in four institutions from following aspects: The development of application-oriented professionals training programs,the overall layout of application-oriented majors,combined with the actual level of regional economy,and the construction condition of professional supporting resources,In order to understand the existing problems in newly-established universities through all Gansu province during the construction of application-oriented majors.Through research and analysis,following major problems were found during the construction of application-oriented majors: "replication" phenomena in the application-oriented training program,lack of dislocation development in the application-oriented majors,lack of deep connection between major construction and regional economy,and application-oriented specialized resource construction fails to meet the needs of students.Based on this,this study analyzes the reasons for the problems in the construction of application-oriented majors in the new local universities in Gansu Province from the three aspects: the lack of coordinating mechanisms at higher department,the lack of awareness of the university,and the lack of willingness of enterprises participation.Based on those findings,and proceeding from the above-mentioned three main aspects,this research further proposes countermeasures and suggestions for the construction of application-oriented majors in newly-built local universities in Gansu Province,including exerting the managing role of the higher education administrative departments,emphasizing the role of the university itself and enhancing the participation of enterprises and fortitude of application-oriented training program.This study aims to facilitate the construction of application-oriented specialties in newly-established universities in Gansu Province and provide fundamental academic support for the transformation and development of local universities.
