In the 1950 s the study and practice of local geography teaching in middle schools has already achieved certain research results.With development of society and the improvement of geography teaching,there is an urgent need for students to learn geography.In fact,many scholars has conducted extensive and comprehensive research on local geography and achieved a series of important results.However,many teachers,especially rural geography teachers,still fail to recognize the importance of carrying out local geography teaching due to the lack of theoretical and practical guidance.In addition,it is also difficult for geography teachers to carry out the most direct and effective teaching methods such as field investigations,geographical investigations,and geographical observations.In recent years,with the establishment of the concept of geographical core competence,cultivating students' geographical core competence in geography teaching has become a new target for geography teaching.The teaching of local geography plays a significant role in developing students' core competence.In this study,based on the concept of geographical core competence,the author analyses and summarizes the general methods of the case study of local geography teaching by carrying out a study on the development and implementation and evaluation of the case study of local geography teaching,which aim to cultivate students' core competence.Moreover,the author designs different implementation plans for different case studies.In the end,with regard to the performance evaluation of the students' local geography learning,and the methods of carrying out the performance evaluation in the local geography teaching are obtained,and the performance of the students in the geographical core competence is analyzed.Through analysis,it has been concluded that the case study on the development of local geography teaching needs to follow the overall thinking of “data collection-data development-practice inspection-secondary development and integration”,followed by analysis of curriculum standards,analysis of situational conditions,design for teaching methods,integration of teaching materials,design for case study,design for learning objectives,and design for learning tasks.All of them mentioned above are used to develop the case study of local geography teaching.Besides,and the analysis and evaluation of the case study on local geography teaching are conducted from case design,case implementation effect,and learning effect.The significance of the study focuses on three aspects as follows.First of all,the implementation of local geography teaching is conducive to the overall development of students and the training of geographical core competence.What is more,it is helpful to teachers' professional growth.Meanwhile,conducting field investigations and implementing performance evaluations are more beneficial to teachers' teaching of local geography.In the future,in order to carry out local geography teaching efficiently in middle schools,it is necessary to establish a research team of local geography and a system for local geography teaching,and design a corresponding performance assessment system.
