The “High-Level Backbone Talents of Ethnic Minorities plan”(which is called as Notional minority backbone plan)is an important part of national policy and education policy in China,and it is a policy of important strategic significance.The High-Level Backbone Talents of Ethnic Minorities Plan Graduate Students(which is called as minority backbone students)are the major groups that this policy requires to cultivate.The minority backbone students are an important part of the graduates in China.The status of this group is related not only to the quality of graduate education,but also to the quality of personnel training in the west of China.The minority backbone students' role identity directly affects the cultivation quality.Only when the minority backbone students identify with the role of “minority backbone students” can they have corresponding role behaviors and better play the roles of minority backbone students.It is a good way to realize the original intention of this policy.Therefore,the studying of the minority backbone students' role identity has very important practical significance.The minority backbone students' role identity is divided into recognition,experience,and behavior three parts.It is mainly the process of identifying themselves as both “high-level ethnic minorities” and master graduate students.Combining with the social reality background,this study is based on the practical problems in the cultivation of minority backbone students and aiming at exploring the status quo of the minority backbone students' role identity and its influencing factors.This study reviewed and analyzed the previous literatures,and based on the existing empirical research on the division of the internal structure of role identity,from the perspective of psychological process perspective,the three dimensions of role identity were explored.And based on the dialectical analysis of Relationship between internal factors and external factors,this study analyzed the four major factors of role identity and built a “process-factor” model as a theoretical basis for this study.Based on the theoretical concept,combined with interview materials,a questionnaire was prepared.In this study,questionnaires were used to collect research data,and descriptive statistics was used to analyze the basic conditions of the motives for applying for minority backbone students.The discrepancy of role identity among minority backbone students with different backgrounds was tested by independent sample T test or oneway ANOVA.The relationship between external support,social assessment,ethnic identity,self-awareness,and minority backbone students' role identity directly was analyzed by correlation analysis and regression analysis,and the main factors affecting role identity and its various dimensions were explored.The findings are as follows: First,the minority backbone students' role identity is at the general level.There are differences in the dimensions of role recognition.Among them,the performance of the emotional dimension is relatively unsatisfactory,and there is still much room for improvement in the role identity.Second,most of the background variables of minority backbone students had no significant effect on their role identity.Only a small part of the background variables had a significant effect.Third,the role of internal factors in the minority backbone students' role identity is better,but the level of external influence factors is not good enough.There is a room for improvement.Fourth,ethnic identity and self-awareness have a significant positive effect on role identity,and external support has a significant positive effect on role identity and its role emotional dimension.Social assessment only has a significant positive effect on the role emotional dimension.This study revealed,to some extent,the status quo of the current minority backbone students' role identity in the low level of recognition,and individuals,colleges,and policy-makers all should work together to fix problems.Finally,this study put forward some countermeasures and suggestions for the minority backbone students' role identity improvement,aiming at contributing to cultivating more high quality graduates for minority backbone students.
