| The Economist is a weekly magazine with considerable influence in Western society.Its language is humorous,sharp,and its position is unique and distinct.The reports cover the world and serve as a window for intellectuals to understand what is happening at home and abroad.After setting up the Chinese column in 2012,the magazine has become more and more concerned about China,including examining the development of sports in China.By analyzing the Chinese sports reports in the magazine,it will be easy to understand the writing skills,the focus,the opinions and the appraisals inside.Based on the theory of narratology,this paper analyzes the reports in The Economist about the Chinese sports from 2012 to 2017 by means of literature research,text analysis and case analysis.In order to understand the characteristics and rules of the report,the author made the paper up by four analysis sections,including narrative themes,narrative structure,narrative perspective and narrative discourse.After analysis,it is found that topics in the reports focus on hot events,and most of the reports belong to in-depth reporting,in addition,have negative content.About the narrative structure,the main application are inverted pyramid structure and Wall Street Journal Formula.Narrative perspective adopts the omniscience perspective and multiple perspectives and the paper constructs three frameworks of sports in China for affirming,questioning and accusing. |
