In the field of education,Xi Jinping's idea of socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era has set new positions and requirements for the profession of teachers.Thinking about how to make teachers happy and healthy in working meets the vigorously need of the country for the development of education,and reflects the humanistic care for teachers as well.This is an important guarantee for building high-quality teams of teachers,and for the development of teachers' profession.Work engagement meets the tradition of positive psychology,which focuses on mental health rather than mental illness,and it focuses on positive rather than negative emotional experiences.This paper introduces the concept of work engagement,discusses different definitions and opinions of work engagement,and also discusses the driving factors of work engagement as well as the impact of work engagement on teachers' occupational health.Finally,the intervention policies and practical directions that encourage teachers to actively participate in the work are discussed.In this paper,teachers' work engagement refers to the psychological identity or the condition of faith for individual teachers.The questionnaire in this paper was partially revised on the basis of Dr.Li Min's “Secondary Teacher Work Engagement Questionnaire”.Through the survey of 253 teachers in a certain area of Jiangsu Province in eastern China,the results show that:1.The work engagement of middle school teachers in JD district is at an upper middle level;2.The work engagement of middle school teachers in JD district has individual differences in demography(gender,school type,teaching age,professional title,marital status,education,teaching subjects,etc.).3.There is a significant positive correlation between work engagement and the original intention of choosing the teacher profession.4.There is a significant positive correlation between work engagement and personal characters.Teachers with good work intention,teaching ability,self-respect and positive attitude,shows better work engagement.5.There is a significant positive correlation between work engagement and job requirements and work resources.A lower job requirement contributes nothing for better work engagement,while better work resources do help to improve work engagement.6.There is a significant positive correlation between work engagement and social resources.A good social atmosphere of respecting teachers has a good influence to work engagement.This study proposes countermeasures from three aspects: the improving of management efficiency of schools;the balance between working and family;and the initiative self-development of teachers.These suggestions and countermeasures are expected to promote the mental health of teachers and help teachers grow professionally,to improve organizational and social atmosphere and also to improve the quality of education.
