Whether in the ancient Greece of the West or the pre-Qin period of China,the idea of aesthetic education emerged.Countless philosophers,estheticians and educationalists created fruitful theoretical achievements centered around the connotation,value and status of aesthetic education.They all thought that aesthetic education played an extremely important role in the improvement of personality and the integrated development of self.Nowadays,while the rapid development of science and technology bring us abundant material resources,people are trapped in a more serious spiritual crisis.The aesthetic education,which is devoted to the cultivation of the spiritual world,is undoubtedly a light to help the lost people find their spiritual home.However,aesthetic education is in an awkward position in the present Chinese education system.In order to increase the school enrolment rate,schools blindly emphasize intellectual education rather than aesthetic education,or use art study as a springboard for admission.Obviously,schools have forgotten the essence of aesthetic education under the influence of the prevailing utilitarianism today.Therefore,this thesis aims to clarify the essence of aesthetic education and explore its true value,also puts forward some suggestions for the development of aesthetic education of China schools,so as to promote the long-term and rational development of aesthetic education in China.The thesis mainly consists of three parts.Chapter One mainly discusses the essence of beauty and aesthetic education,and comes to the conclusion: the ultimate purpose of aesthetic education is to promote the development of personality.Chapter Two mainly describes the value of aesthetic education including two aspects: one is reflected in the development of students' personality;the other is reflected in the students' moral and intellectual development.The former is called the noumenon value of aesthetic education,and the latter is the instrumental value of it.The third and fourth chapters are the third part,which mainly introduces the practical difficulties and the reasons in theory and practice of aesthetic education in schools and puts forward the corresponding improvement measures from the aspects of theoretical research,curriculum implementation,teachers' construction and campus culture construction.
