Among all cancers,breast cancer is a typical type of cancer that women often suffer from.For breast cancer patients,most patients develop depression during the long treatment period.Based on the author's internship experience in G Provincial Cancer Hospital,this study studied the depression degree and its causes of breast cancer patients through participatory observation,questionnaires and interviews.The self-rating depression scale(SDS)was used to measure 374 breast cancer patients in G Provincial Cancer Hospital.It was found that depression was prevalent in breast cancer patients.About one fifth of breast cancer patients and 20.2% of breast cancer patients had mild or more depression,13.9% had mild depression,5% had moderate depression and 1.3% had severe depression.The causes of depression in breast cancer patients are difficult economic conditions,inadequate social support,psychological problems caused by treatment,the severity of the disease and the impact of different treatment stages.This study selected a moderate depressive Ms.Jia from breast cancer patients in G Provincial Cancer Hospital as the service object,and carried out case work intervention study.The results show that the intervention of case work can effectively alleviate the depression of breast cancer patients.Ms.Jia's depression degree has been alleviated.The SDS score has been reduced from 62 to 38,and from moderate depression to non-depression.Social work intervention in breast cancer patients with depression has achieved positive results.
