Geographical literacy is an indispensable basic quality of citizens in today's and future society.The cultivation and improvement of students' geographical literacy can not be separated from the cultivation of map ability.The so-called map ability,mainly including map reading ability,map analysis ability,map drawing ability and map using ability.The current middle school geography curriculum standard and the teaching material content graphic presentation way,all request the student to have the good map ability.Map ability plays an irreplaceable role in helping middle school students learn geography,promote their all-round development,and even exercise their ability to adapt to the society.As the most important training force for students' map ability,many front-line geography teachers' training methods for students' map ability are not appropriate.The training methods are simple and conservative,and it is easy to ignore the differences among students,making some students' map ability level unable to get due development.Therefore,based on the idea of difference research,this paper conducted a survey on the map ability cultivation of junior high school students.By means of literature research,questionnaire survey,interview and other educational scientific research methods,this paper investigates the current situation of map ability of junior middle school students in Liaocheng city by taking two middle schools as case areas.Through the analysis of the current junior high school geography textbooks,compulsory education curriculum standards and the real questions of the junior high school academic level examination,the importance of cultivating junior high school students' map ability is further verified and analyzed.A questionnaire survey was conducted to find out the current situation of map ability of junior middle school students in Liaocheng City.After statistical analysis,it is found that there are significant gender differences and urban-rural differences in junior high school students' map ability,and the overall level needs to be improved.Secondly,there are cognitive biases and inappropriate methods in the training of junior high school students' map ability among schools,teachers and parents.Finally,in the learning theory of constructivism,the theory of multiple intelligences,differences in teaching thought and under the guidance of the theory of educationcommunication,for the current outstanding problems that exist in the map ability training in junior high school students,try to put forward the corresponding cultivation strategies and feasible teaching case,for a map of geography teachers cultivate students' ability to provide the reference.Through the research and investigation,the following conclusions are drawn: First,there are individual differences and group differences in the map ability of junior high school students to varying degrees.Secondly,geography teachers should start with gender differences,pay attention to the methods suitable for students to develop their map ability;on the basis of changing ideas,teachers in different areas of urban and rural areas should adapt to local conditions and optimize the cultivation of students' map ability.Thirdly,schools should enhance their understanding of the importance of geography and strengthen the construction of geography.Fourth,schools and geography teachers should coordinate and help students' parents form a correct understanding,and form a home-school joint effort to cultivate students' map literacy.
