Talent training is the basic or primary function of colleges and universities.It is the only function of universities at the beginning.It is also the fundamental difference between colleges and other social organizations.Only in different countries and historical periods,the goals,levels and specifications of talent training are different.No matter how the function of higher education evolves,the essential function of talent training has never changed and never wavered.Undergraduate education occupies a core position in the talents cultivation of higher education.Talent training is the essential function of a university,they adhere to the principle of “based on the foundation”,the training of talents is the basis,and the undergraduate education is the root.Undergraduate education is at the core of talent training,the basic position of edutaion and teaching,the new era frontier status of educational development.Under the background of the “double first-class” initiative,as a typical representative of first-class universities,research universities have become increasingly prominent in China's higher education system,and shoulder the important mission of cultivating top innovative talents.One of the foundations for the development of research universities is the cultivation of undergraduate talents.Based on the unique development history and running conditions of research universities,how to transform the unique advantages of research universities with many masters,high interdisciplinary integration,rich academic and scientific resources,and frequent international exchanges to serve undergraduate teaching and undergraduate talent training,exploring undergraduate talent training models that meet the characteristic of research universities,occupy an important position on the road to build world-class universities and first-class disciplines.The research is based on the philosophy of higher education as the theoretical support,based on the characteristics of the era of building an innovative country in China and the urgent needs of the “double first-class” initiative,in order to solve “what kind of people to cultivate”and “how to train these people” in research universities.Reasonable thinking on the issue,following the logic of “understand the current situation,explore the problem,carry outcomparative analysis in our counrty and the other countries,to select typical cases for inspiration,and explore the possibility of corresponding countermeasures for the problem ”.The research is divided into four parts.The first part sorts out and clarifies several theoretical issues in undergraduate talent training in research universites,including concept definition and theoretical basis.The second part examines the reality and problems of the undergraduate talent training model in China's research universities in the context of the “double first-class”initiative from three dimensions: the training objectives,training specifications,and training methods of the undergraduate in research universities.The third part is a practical analysis of undergraduate talent training models in American research universities.Through case analysis of undergraduate talent training model such as Harvard University,it is hoped that the reform undergraduate talent training modles in China's research universities can be used for reference and inspiration.The fourth part explores the possibility of undergraduate talent training mode in research universities in China,and puts forward reform plans and suggestions from three aspects: the training objectives,training specifications,and training methods of research universities.
