Zhang Jian's Thoughts On Vocational Education And Main Practice In Nantong

Zhang Jian was the Number One Scholar of the late Qing Dynasty and also a distinguished politician,industrialist,and educator in modern history.Under the influence of western learning to the east,in order to save the country,he continuously explore the way to save the country by industry or by education.In addition,the principle of"education is father,industry is mother" was raised and many vocational schools were established with his efforts.All of the above contributions made Zhang Jian the pioneer and founder of early vocational education in China.A set of comparatively complete ideological systems of vocational education were gradually formed by Zhang Jian during the process of setting up industrial education.His educational doctrines of vocational education including training objectives in "focusing on the comprehensive development in morality,intelligence and sports",curriculum setting ideas in "communicating between Chinese and western philosophy",teaching methods in"paying attention to practice",fund-raising in "multi channels",teacher constructions in"high quality",and education management in "strict requirements" still had important reference meaning for China's current vocational education to take the road of joint training of schools,enterprises,and scientific research institutes,to promote the comprehensive development of students,and to truly play the role of vocational education.Zhang Jian set up a series of industries,education and charities in Nantong,which accelerated the modernization process of it and made it "the first city in modern China".The "Nantong pattern" initiated by Zhang Jian has been followed by later generations.
