In recent years,with the development of education,some problems in front-line teaching have been increasingly prominent,and teaching reform has steppe d into critical period.In 2014,Opinions on Deepening the Curriculum Reform and Implementing the Fundamental Task of Morality Education put forward the“core literacy” which proposed new requirements for the ongoing education refo rm.The core literacy,from the perspective of humanism,points out that educati on is supposed to focus on cultivating students' necessary abilities and qualities to adapt to the future society,and that education is supposed to promote the o verall development of students with the advantages of various curricula.Looking back on the history of Chinese education reform,we have made lots of achiev ements: teaching contents are increasingly related to life and era,teaching meth ods are more diversified and modernized,and functions of teaching evaluation a re progressively rationalized.However,we should understand that in the process of teaching,there is still a gap between teaching goals and students' core liter acy.Therefore,this study takes what is mentioned above as the starting point.This study is guided by the core literacy of Chinese,and takes teachers an d students of two high schools in J city as respondents.The author comprehens ively applies methods of documentary,questionnaire,interview and observation method and so on,and compiles a questionnaire on high school modern novel r eading instruction to investigate the present situation of the relevant instruction.Some problems,under the background of core literacy of Chinese,existing in h igh school modern novel reading instruction are revealed,and the corresponding causes are analyzed.And some reasonable suggestions are proposed by the aut hor to improve the relevant reading instruction strategies,so that teachers can b etter cultivate the students' core literacy of Chinese,and better conduct instructi on on modern novel reading.Through this investigation,the author finds out that,under the background of core literacy of Chinese,the overall situation is far from ideal.There are fo ur main problems: students reading few books and the chosen books being of l ow quality;monotonous teaching goals and too much emphases on imparting kn owledge;reading instruction being of tedious pattern and students being of low participation in class;unitary class assessment and rigid evaluation mode.The root cause lies in teachers being restricted by their stereotype and inability,and students having obstacles in learning modern novels.In order to solve these problems,under the background of core literacy of Chinese,three aspects should be reconsidered,that is teaching goals,teaching process and teaching e valuation.Therefore the author proposes some specific strategies.Firstly,based on the core literacy,proper teaching goals on modern novel reading should be proposed.When formulating teaching goals,curriculum standards should be take n as the fundamental principle,students' demands should be regarded as the hig hest standard,and the characteristics of modern novels should also be considere d.Secondly,the teaching methods of reading are supposed to be innovated base d on the core literacy of Chinese.In the process of construction and application of language,teachers should give proper recommendation and guidance,should improve the reading quality through integration,should appropriately organize c lass activities,and should value both oral expression and writing training;as for the development and promotion of thinking,teachers should set up more questi ons,in order to make students think more,criticize more and interpret more,an d to make students think flexibly;in the process of aesthetic appreciation and c reation,teachers should improve their own aesthetic abilities,and create multiple-perspective situations to enrich students' aesthetic experience,in order to inspire and guide students to carry out aesthetic creation;in terms of cultural inheritan ce and understanding,it is necessary for teachers to strengthen students' learnin g of the characteristics of modern novels,and teachers are supposed to carry o ut special reading,deepen cultural inheritance and understanding,grasp the spirit of era,and enhance the experience of reading contemporary novels.Finally,th e concept of teaching evaluation should be improved based on the core literacy of Chinese.and teachers should establish a correct concept of evaluation,whic h should be student-oriented and improvement-oriented;teachers are supposed to strive to promote teaching evaluation consistency and to attempt to enrich the diversity of class modes,to guide students conduct self-evaluation,to encourage students to evaluate each other,and to carry out home-school cooperative eval uation.
