“It is necessary to cultivate students' extensive reading interest,expand the reading scope and increase the reading amount;students should do less homework,read more books,enjoy reading,read good books and read the whole book”.These are the teaching suggestions proposed in the Chinese curriculum standards for compulsory education(2011).Since Mr.Ye Shengtao's idea of “reading the whole book and developing reading habits”,“Reading the whole book” has always been an important topic in the study of Chinese teaching.The teaching of “reading the whole book” in this paper refers to the activity of the teacher guiding the students to read the whole book according to the concept of People's Education Press edition of the Chinese official textbook.For some reason,the teaching effect of “reading the whole book” is not ideal.This phenomenon is partly caused by students' different interest in “reading the whole book”,their lacking of reading will and unclear purpose of reading.Besides,it is also affected by several other factors,including the undesirable teaching plan of teachers,insufficient reading accumulation,lack of experience,unbalanced teaching environment,weak implementation of relevant activities and a weak connection with classroom teaching.This article focuses on the research of the “reading the whole book” teaching in junior high school.By utilizing the way of questionnaire survey and by observing from the educational practice,this article tries to analyze the present status and insufficiency of the “reading the whole book” teaching,and explore the optimization strategy that can help improve the status of the teaching of “reading the whole book”,so that it can benefit the development of “reading the whole book”.“Reading the whole book” is not only an important way for students to develop themselves,but also an important part of Chinese teaching.The basic value of the “Reading the whole book” teaching in junior high school is to enhance reading accumulation,cultivate reading quality and improve thinking ability.How to exert the value of the “Reading the whole book” teaching in the teaching process is a noteworthy issue.Aiming at the current status of “reading the whole book” teaching,this thesis put forward some optimization strategies.For example,advocate the teacher to plan the teaching holistically,enrich the reading attainment,expand the grasp of more method,clarify the sensible reading purpose,design interesting reading guidance,adhere to systematic common reading,expand teaching resource to establish reading condition,conduct diversified activities to promote individual reading,utilize classroom teaching to promote extracurricular reading.It is hoped that these strategies can improve the “reading the whole book” teaching in junior high school.
