Supplementary materials of texts are one of the main components of history textbooks,which make up the whole contents of history textbooks together with the text.Thus,it is an indispensible part of textbooks.With the spreading of new curriculum reform,the supplementary materials have caused increasingly more attention among scholars and teachers on the frontlines.The history textbook for junior high school compiled based on History Curriculum for Compulsory Education(2011 edition)was published formally in 2016 and put into use across the country.Great changes have taken place in this history textbook edition,one of which lies in the increase in proportion of supplementary materials,richer contents and forms.How to apply better the texts and supplementary materials in teaching is the problem to be solved by each teacher on the frontline.As a whole,the supplementary materials in Chinese History(Grade 7th,8th)can be divided into text category and chart category.Based on the locations where they lie in and the contents,the text supplementary materials can be further classified into indication,explanation and expansion materials.Chart supplementary materials can be further divided into picture type and table type.The supplementary materials in Chinese History is featured with rich materials selection,colorful columns,typical questions and updated contents.They play the role of inspiring students' interests in learning,leading students multiple thinking,assisting students in reviewing knowledge and supplementing further the texts and so on.However,there are shortcomings like lack of interests and part of obscure materials.In specific application,it is suggested that teachers adopt different strategies as for text type and chart type of materials and focus on improving professional level,design based on new curriculum,position accurately the status of supplementary materials,as well as deal with textbook flexibly with attention on teaching evaluation.
