The high school stage is a critical period for students' worldview formation and career development.Although the new college entrance examination system gives students more choices,it is still hard for them to make decisions due to the lack of career awareness.Therefore,driven by national policies and guidelines,career education has gradually attracted attention.However,in most high schools,the primary goal for students is to enter higher education,and career education independent of the high school discipline system is unmatured and lacks teaching resources.Integrating career education into subject teaching is the most efficient way to implement career education in this situation.The comprehensiveness and practicality of the geography subject make it a good entry point for discipline career education.Career education in geography is not the same as subject selection guidance or career experience.It aims to improve students' career awareness,give full play to their subjective initiative,enable students to start career exploration and have a deeper understanding of the subject,cultivate students' key competencies and interest in this subject,subject cognition,subject skills,correct career conception,and equip them with the ability to make choices(career planning),know,develop and realize themselves.Based on the literature review,textbook comparison,and questionnaire survey,this study analyzed the current career education situation in geography in China and demonstrated the necessity and feasibility of career education in geography.According to the new education curriculum standard and the needs of teachers and students,we discussed the goal and principles of career education in geography and proposed a development strategy for implementing career education in geography: develop career education materials in geography textbooks,make full use of class teaching to infiltrate career education content,comprehensively improve the curriculum system of school career education,thoroughly combine social forces to carry out career education activities and give full play to the role of multiple evaluations,exchange,and sharing.Based on this research,the author selected students from the first grade of Hainan H Middle School to conduct a one-year teaching experiment and questionnaire survey.The results indicated that the vocational maturity,subject interest,subject awareness,and subject skills of the students in the experimental group were significantly improved after implementing career education in geography.Teachers' teaching observations also suggested that career education in geography has a significant guiding effect on students' choice of subjects and stimulates students' learning motivation,which has a positive impact on students' academic results.
