“Qian Xuesen's Question” and “Qian Liqun's Concern” both point to critical issues facing higher education in China.To educate qualified socialism successors to meet the needs of current and future socio-economic development,a combination science and art and integration of the major education with general education are imperative.This academic paper,Strong Foundations: Twelve Principles for Effective General Education Programs,proposes 12 principles for college and university on the implementation of general education program with its high constructive value to higher education.Upon the completion of translation,specific features of academic discourse are identified such as: strong logic and complexity of sentence structures.So,three typical sentence structures are analyzed and corresponding translation strategies are proposed.To translate split sentences,translators need to pay attention to information flow and use flexible translation techniques of addition,deletion,reduction and adaption to avoid Europeanization.To translate periodic sentences,the translator should avoid the incongruity of the whole and change the sentence focus,if necessary.To translate complicated sentences,the translator should attend to logical relationship based on the context and the linguistic feature.This paper undertakes to propose practical solutions on the basis of the analysis of translations of educationa l discourse.
