In 2006,China launched its "Special-post Teachers Program”in an effort to solve the shortage of teachers and improve teaching quality in rural areas.In recent years,special-post teachers have become the major contributor to the faculties of rural schools.However special-post teachers are faced with various problems including unsatisfactory living and working conditions,gap between ideality and reality,and inharmonious interpersonal relationship,leading to some irrational mobility,i.e.,attrition,of these teachers.This may further lead to a shortage of teachers resulting in declined rural education quality and unbalanced development across rural schools,thus affecting the development of rural education.It is therefore vital for developing rural education to solve the current attrition of special-post teachers in rural areas,in an effort to stabilize the faculties.First,current attrition status of special-post teachers:Attrition of special-post teachers in rural primary and middle schools has caused discontinuation of teachers' age groups,unbalanced disciplinary structure,decreased educational attainment of teachers,and difficulty in offering some courses,which has compromised the quality of rural education,thus affecting the popularization of compulsory education.Second,influencing factors for attrition of special-post teachers:The factors that may influence attribution of special-post teachers in rural primary and middle schools are addressed by both qualitative and quantitative analyses.The qualitative factors include,e.g.,remuneration,school facilities,working conditions,school management,interpersonal relationship in school,and occupational stress,which are related to various aspects including social environment and social psychology.By investigating the causes of attrition of special-post teachers in rural primary and middle schools,the author proposes a range of countermeasures.Third,countermeasures for attrition of special-post teachers:In order to stabilize the faculties of rural primary and middle schools and control the attrition of special-post teachers,the author proposes specific solutions from the perspectives of the government,school,living and individuals.
