Adolescence is an important period for individual development. With the advent of puberty, the physical and mental health of adolescents has grown from immature to mature.Adolescence has also become a period of mental health problems.Mental health problems during adolescence can lead to education and social problems. If young people's psychological problems are not discovered and managed in time,it may lead to educational problems such as backward academic performance or even premature dropouts. Some psychological problems may also be accompanied by crimes, suicides and other social problems. With the rapid development of China's economy, future social stability and successful economic transformation require talents with both knowledge and skills as well as sound mentality and personality as a human capital reserve. Therefore, the mental health of adolescents deserves attention. There is a close relationship between junior high school students' teacher-student relationship and students' mental health status.Junior high school students spend most of their time at school, school is an important environment for learning and living.Teacher-student relationship is an important social relationship in schools,so the relationship between teacher-student relationship and mental health can't be ignored. At present, there is still a clear gap between educational resources in urban and rural areas in China.Under the competitive education system, students in rural areas are facing more severe pressures for further studies and are more prone to psychological problems such as anxiety and tension. However, schools in rural areas lack corresponding mental health knowledge courses.Due to the limited level of education, parents in rural areas have insufficient guidance on students'mental health problems.Rural students may face more serious mental health problems than urban students.Previous studies on the relationship between teacher-student relationships and mental health have not been consistent. In addition, most of the previous studies were conducted in urban areas. Therefore,it is of great significance to carry out studies on the relationship between teacher-student relationship and mental health in junior high schools in rural areas.Studies have found that teacher-student relationships affect student achievement. There are also studies that point out that achievement will affect students' mental health. What is the role of performance in teacher-student relationship and mental health? In this study,8902 rural junior high school students in Shaanxi Province were selected for data collection and analysis using a stratified random sampling method.Firstly, the status quo of the teacher-student relationship in rural junior middle school students and the psychological state of students are described. Then using OLS multiple linear regression method to study the relationship between teacher-student relationship and mental health in rural junior middle school students. Finally, test the mediating effects of mathematics achievement on teacher-student relationship and mental health. Conclusions are as follows.First, the teacher-student relationship and students' mental health status of junior high school students in rural areas in China are generally good, but many students have different types of anxiety. The teacher-student relationship has differences in demographic variables(gender, grade, father's migrant work, mother's migrant work),mental health status differs in demographic variables(gender, grade, residence, father's education, father's migrant work, mother's migrant work). The students' satisfaction with the teacher-student relationship is high, and the communication between teachers and students is not ideal. There are fewer home visits and individual talks than classroom teaching. The overall level of mental health is good, and the positive rate of mental health problems is 2.35%,but the proportion of individuals with individual anxiety tends to be 72.8%.The highest percentage of students experiencing problems was 64.36%for learning anxiety,21.65%for physical anxiety, and 19.05%for self-blaming tendency.Second, there is a significant positive correlation between teacher-student relationships and mental health status in rural junior high school students. That is,the better the teacher-student relationship, the lower the risk of mental health problems in junior high school. There is a negative correlation between mathematics achievement, gender, father's education level and student's mental health risk in control variables. There is a positive correlation between living school, mother's migrant employment and students' mental health risk.Third, the mediating effect of mathematics achievement on teacher-student relationship and mental health is significant.Good teacher-student relationship results are significantly better.Students with better academic performance have significantly lower risk of mental health problems.Teacher-student relationship can affect the mental health of students by affecting their performance.Based on the above results, this study proposes the following recommendations:First,to strengthen communication between teachers and students. In addition to teaching itself, teachers and students should build richer forms of communication and increase the frequency of communication.Second, conduct appropriate classroom activities to reduce students' anxiety. When finding students with more serious mental health problems, develop a reasonable guidance plan and seek professional help if necessary.Third, the focus on boys and girls focuses on different dimensions. For male teachers to focus more on their teacher-student relationship, girls are more concerned with mental health.Fourth, pay attention to students whose parents are migrant workers.Parents who are migrant workers have significantly worse teacher-student relationship and mental health status. They also need the support of teachers to promote their healthy development.Fifth, pay attention to students with poor performance. The improvement of teacher-student relations and the improvement of their performance will further promote their mental health.
