STEM education derived from the United States.Subsequently,STEM education has attracted researchers' attention all around the world including China.It's an abbreviation of science,technology,engineer,and mathematics.It aims at the promotion of learning base on project or problem situations.The "General High School Geography Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)" issued by the Ministry of Education of China in 2018 emphasized the cultivation of students' core geographic literacy and its educational value coincides with the STEM education undoubtedly.Although most students in our country have a solid theoretical knowledge base,but their thinking patterns are fixed and they lack certain problem-solving skills and creativity.Integrating STEM education into high school geography is a good way to play the comprehensive characteristics of geography.Putting students in a dominant position,guiding students to solve problems so that to improve the students' problem-solving skills,and cultivating students' core geographic literacy.It can transform the traditional teacher-centered teaching mode into the student-centered learning mode that not only cultivates the students' geographic core literacy,but also promotes the penetration and development of STEM education's "students-oriented" concept in geography teaching.This paper firstly analyzes the research background of STEM education in high school geography teaching through literature,and puts forward the research significance of high school geography teaching in STEM education.Based on the literature consulted,the research analyzes the progress at home and overseas found that STEM education is in the development stage in China.Its research scope and degree need to be further expanded and deepened.Then,the concepts of STEM education and STEM literacy are defined,the characteristics of STEM education are explained,and the theoretical basis of STEM education is sorted out.The questionnaire survey and interview are used to collect data from students and teachers in a high school.Through inductive analysis,it was found that some students are not interested in learning;the thinking mode is fixed and knowledge cannot be flexibly applied to problem solving;integrated thinking and innovative thinking are in urgent need of further development;few teachers are familiar with STEM education;lack relevant teaching resources.Faced with this situation,we need to explore a new teaching model in order to change the traditional teaching method.STEM education,as a teaching concept aiming at cultivating innovative talents,advocates the cultivation of students' problem-solving skills and creative thinking,which can be applied to high school geography teaching.Aiming at the problems found in the survey and interviews,the implementation strategy of STEM education in high school geography teaching is proposed: creating interesting real problem situations;integrating multi-disciplinary knowledge to improve problem solving ability;cultivating comprehensive thinking and creative thinking through problem exploration;Attach importance to training STEM education;develop STEM education curriculum resources.Based on the study of the current teaching situation and the principle of applying STEM education concepts to geography teaching.The 5E teaching mode is used to design a teaching process that combines STEM education with high school geography."Desertification Prevention" is taken as an example to design a teaching case.This paper tries to combine the STEM education with high school geography teaching,imitating the 5E teaching mode,designing a high school geography teaching process based on STEM education and designing a teaching case.In order to provide reference to the current high school geography teaching.Since STEM education is still in development in China currently,I hope that the follow-up researches will construct the corresponding STEM curriculum and evaluation system to promote the "localization" of STEM education.
