The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of the intervention of the iPad application software "Yuudee" on the communication behavior of three autistic children.Autistic individuals have functional communication impairment and they can't express their needs spontaneously.They prefer to use inappropriate gestures,eye gaze,odd vocal communication and inadaptable behavior(aggression,self-injury)to express their needs.Studies have shown that the acquisition of communication skills can improve behavior problems,enhance independence and raise the overall quality of life,so the acquisition of communication skills is very important for autistic individuals.The Augmentative and Alternative Communication(AAC)is one of the most effective ways to improve the communication skills of autistic children.With the progress of technology,the iPad application software as a complete high-tech AAC system provides opportunities for the social interaction,communication and language development of autistic children.There are many empirical studies using the iPad application software to intervene the communication behavior of autistic children abroad,but only a few studies in China use the application software abroad to intervene the expression of demand behavior of autistic children.Therefore,on the basis of the previous research,this study used the domestic iPad application software to intervene in the the expression of demand and response behavior of three autistic children.In this study,three autistic children aged 7-9 years old who were speechless or low-verbal were selected to explore the effect of intervention of the iPad application software "Yuudee" on its communication behavior by using the multipled probe design cross-behavior of single-subject experimental design.The independent variable is the teaching program based on the iPad application software.The dependent variable is the number and proficiency of the subjects expressing their demand and responding questions independently.One is the number and proficiency of the subjects expressing their demand and responding questions independently using the iPad,and the other is the number and proficiency of the subjects expressing their needs or responding questions using spoken language or other actions.In the course of the study,the number and proficiency of the subjects in expressing their demand and responding to questions were recorded during the baseline,intervention and maintenance stages,and the data of the baseline,intervention and maintenance stages were analyzed and collated through the intra-and inter-stage analysis of visual analysis,curve chart and C statistics and effect size in statistical analysis.The results showed that:(1)There were differences in the number and proficiency of three subjects using iPad to express their demand independently.The number and proficiency of subjects 2 increased slowly.The number and proficiency of subjects 1 and 3 increased rapidly from baseline to the first stage of intervention,and the number and proficiency of expressing demand have dropped rapidly to a gradual and rapid increase in the fourth stage.But the overall number and proficiency of subjects increased.(2)The number and proficiency of three subjects using iPad to respond to questions independently increased,but the maintenance effect was different.The maintenance effect of subjects 2 and 3 was good,while the maintenance effect of subjects 1 was not good.(3)The number of two subjects used spoken language and other actions to express their demand and respond to questions had improved,but the progress was not obvious.The number of one subject used spoken language and other actions to express their demand and respond to questions had no change,which was consistent with that before the intervention.According to the results of the study and the performance of three participants in the intervention training,it can be seen that the application software of iPad is helpful to improve the communication behavior of autistic children,but due to the great individual differences of the participants,it is necessary to be cautious in promoting the results of the study.
