Intervention Research Of Group Work On Social Adaptation Of People With Mild To Moderate Mental Retardation

In any society,disability is inevitable and the attitude of a society towards the disabled shows the degree of civilization in this society.In recent years,the new concept of the disabled has gradually been recognized by people.The society is being more and more inclusive and comprehensive to the disabled.And it has become a social consensus to respect and support them.People with intellectual disabilities are a very special group in the disabled.They are more likely to be ignored and more difficult to join the society than people with physical disabilities.The intelligence of people with intellectual disability is significantly lower than that of ordinary people,and it is accompanied by social adjustment disorder.Social adjustment is an acquired behavior with high plasticity.To improve the situation of people with intellectual disability,it not only needs the society to accept their irreversible intellectual defects,but also to reduce and eliminate their social adjustment barriers,so that they could reshape and improve their social adaptability.Taking 9 people with mild or moderate intellectual disability from the Y Disabled People's Home in Nanjing as the working object,with the purpose of improving social adaptability of people with intellectual disability,this article,through the Data Studies and Field Research and guided by Theory of Social Ecosystem,explores the factor that influence the social adjustment of working object from the view of micro,meso and macro.This article explore the role and the function of social work in this practice areas by intervening in the social adjustment of people with mild or moderate intellectual disability through group work.It is found that due to congenital shortage of personal abilities,imperfection of informal support networks,and constraints from society,culture,institution,environment,people with mild or moderate intellectual disabilities have varying degrees of barriers on social adjustment in five aspects: life,work,interpersonal communication,rules,and psychology.The social adjustment of people with intellectual disability require corresponding support and services from individual person,family,community and societies,that is,to help them improve social adaptability and realize the dream of "disability without obstacles" by promoting the self-change of the people with intellectual disability,strengthen the dynamic support of the informal system,improve solitude and protection from cultural and institutional environment.
