The urban integration of the new generation of migrant workers is a major practical and theoretical issue during the period of social transformation in China. The new generation of migrant workers, who grew up after the “reform and opening up”,has different characteristics from the old generation of migrant workers. The new generation wanders between the city and the countryside.Influenced by the urban culture, they gradually no longer adapt to the rural lifestyle.Their emotional identification with and attachment to the countryside are weakened, but their identification with the city has not been fully constructed. They have become a "marginalized" group that is difficult to integrate into the city and unwilling to return to the countryside.Shenzhen is a typical migrant city.On the one hand, migrant workers have made great contributions to Shenzhen's urban economic development. On the other hand, the fact that migrant workers are not fully integrated into the city has also buried hidden dangers for social harmony and stability. With the gradual disappearance of the "demographic dividend" in China, labor resources have become the most important strategic resources in cities. The importance of urban integration of the new generation of migrant workers has risen to an unprecedented level in Shenzhen's economic and social development. The existing research results on the new generation of migrant workers are relatively abundant, but most of them recognize, judge and discuss certain issue or aspect of the workers.Only a few of them havesystematically sorted out the current situation of urban integration of the new generation of migrant workers in a certain area and put forward practical and feasible recommendations on policies.Based on the theories of social identity and exclusion, social network and social capital theory, and Maslow's hierarchy of needs, this paper analyses the common and individual needs of the new generation of migrant workers in Shenzhen in terms of material level, spiritual culture and self-realization,as well as their integration economically, socially and culturally. This paper points out the marginalized predicament of the new generation of migrant workers in their occupational and economic status, living space, social security and social identity, analyses the reasons for the urban integration of the new generation of migrant workers, and puts forward some targeted measures in the fields of identity, economic foothold, social acceptance, and cultural exchange, etc.with a view to promoting the new generation of migrant workers to accelerate their integration into the urban process and share the fruitful results of Shenzhen's development.
