A Study On The Aquatic Products Trade Between China And ASEAN

China and ASEAN are important economic and trade partners to each other.They not only have the geographical advantages of cooperation,but also have a good economic and trade environment to develop the cooperation.From the tariff reduction policy after the completion of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area in 2010 to the proposal of jointly building the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road,the economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN has continuously moved to a new level.Under the background of jointly building 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road between China and ASEAN,the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides in the marine economy has developed a lot and the fishery cooperation between two sides has gained more and more attention from scholars at home and abroad gradually.The research literatures are mainly focus on the development of fishery resources and cooperation in the marine industry.However,the research literatures focusing on the aquatic product trade between China and ASEAN are relatively rare.This thesis takes the aquatic product trade between China and ASEAN as the research object and studies the trade potential of China and ASEAN aquatic products under the background of “21 Maritime Silk Road” based on the literature analysis,comparative analysis and empirical analysis.Firstly,this thesis introduces three trade theories,which provides theoretical support for clarifying the structure and characteristics of aquatic products trade between China and ASEAN and analyzing the competitive advantages of aquatic products in different countries.Then the thesis analyzes the general situation of aquatic products trade between China and ASEAN through discussing the basis of cooperation,the current situation between China and whole ASEAN and the trade structure between China and each ASEAN country,so as to grasp the trade characteristics and market distribution of aquatic products.And the thesis calculates the Market Share,Revealed Comparative Advantage,Trade Specialization Coefficient,Trade Complementary Index and Trade Integration Index of aquatic product trade to study the competitive relationship and complementary relationship between China and ASEAN respectively.On the basis of above study,the thesis estimates aquatic product trade potential and trade efficiency between China and ASEAN of countries along the Maritime Silk Road with each other using the Stochastic Frontier Gravity Model and analyzes the exogenous determinants of the trade efficiency based on One-step Estimation.The estimation uses the panel data of 24 countries in the world which have close relationship to China's aquatic export,including six ASEAN countries.Finally,the thesis summarized main conclusions based on the research results and proposes countermeasures and suggestions to promote the trade of aquatic products between China and ASEAN by combing Chinese policies and major problems in the trade of aquatic products with ASEAN to deepen the significance of this thesis.This thesis finds that the trade facilitation level of aquatic products still needs to be improved and the variety of trade products is too single to meet the needs of different markets.And there are certain competitive problems in the trade of aquatic products between China and ASEAN.Besides,aquatic products trade between China and ASEAN still has great potential in the future.At the same time,three countermeasures and suggestions were proposed to further develop the trade of aquatic products between China and ASEAN.Firstly,we can enhance the international market competitiveness of China's aquatic products by strengthening the supervision of aquatic product quality to improve the quality of aquatic products and optimizing the production structure of aquatic products to adapt to diversified market demand.Secondly,we can strengthen maritime connectivity through improving infrastructure construction to reduce trade barriers in aquatic products and improving trade facilitation by promoting bilateral trade development to further deepen China-ASEAN bilateral trade cooperation.Thirdly,we can achieve the goal of developing the economy of China and ASEAN jointly by deepening technical exchanges to expand the output value of aquatic products and strengthening regional economic and trade cooperation to create a stable development environment,and ultimately providing a strong power to develop the aquatic product trade between China and ASEAN.
