| English is the official universal language in today’s world, and it has a long history of development.Robert Phillipson in the book "Imperialism in the Field of Language" reveals the penetration of English hegemony in language education, and gives useful suggestions for English teaching. As a work in the field of sociolinguistics, the book has formal language specifications, many professional terms, and is used to long sentences. In the process of translating the fifth to seventh chapters of the book, the author found many typical difficult translations. The main problem is the translation of long sentences.Long difficult sentences are the difficulties in learning English and the focus of English-Chinese translation.Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory is an influential and flexible translation theory, which is also of great significance in guiding the translation of English long and difficult sentences. The source text "Imperialism in the Linguistic Field" has a rigorous format and logical logic;it is well-organized and well-organized,with complex forms but distinct levels. The author combines Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the commonness of the differences between Chinese and English languages, and the difficulties in the translation of long English sentences in language texts.Through the analysis of long sentence examples in translation practice,The sequential translation method, variable order method and split translation method are used to solve the problem of the translation of English long sentences into Chinese in language texts, and it is proved that these skills can really achieve the requirements of the "functional equivalence" theory."Formal equivalence, content equivalence and reader response equivalence."After the thesis is completed, not only the author’s academic ability and research ability have been improved, but it also proves that the functional equivalence theory has a good guiding effect in the translation of long sentences in linguistic texts. It is hoped that the attempts in this article will help achieve efficient and accurate English translation practice. |
