Nowadays countries and regions are closely related with each other and the communication is becoming more frequent. With the increasing demand for interpreters, it is urgent to cultivate the ability of interpreters. However, many interpretation researchers mainly focus their attention on how to develop interpreters’ linguistic ability, so this thesis probes into interpreters from the angle of extra-linguistic ability by analyzing specific examples on the basis of the theory by Daniel Gile. Then it suggests the relevant extra-linguistic training strategies for the interpreters. The thesis firstly reviews the general situation of the interpretation research and states the definition and features of interpretation. Secondly it introduces Daniel Gile’s Effort Model and the extra-linguistic factors based on that model. The main part of this thesis contains two sections, the first section applies the Effort Model to analyze the interpretation materials of2013Li Keqiang’s press conference and sums up the extra-linguistic ability influencing factors. The second section puts forward strategies on how to cultivate the interpreters’ extra-linguistic ability. The author of the thesis hopes the strategies summarized in this thesis can be of some guidance for interpreters.
