A Report On The Interpreting Task Of Services Department In Chuandongbei Natural Gas Project

With the great demands of energy consumption and rapid development of the energy industry,the number of multinational engineering projects have increased dramatically.China’s natural resources are abundant,and foreign mining companies have advanced technology and rich experience,as a result,the cooperation between Chinese companies and foreign companies brought huge benefits to the energy mining industry of the related countries.Interpreting to provide language services for related companies has thus been promoted consequently in this field.This report is based on the author’s interpreting experience at Chuandongbei Gas Project,which is one of the largest and most complex natural gas projects in China,jointly developed by China National Petroleum Corporation and international oil company Chevron.The author’s tasks mainly include conference consecutive interpreting and on-site activity interpreting.By selecting typical cases in practice as the analysis objects and adopting the functional equivalence theory as the analysis theory,this report summarizes the main problems encountered in the practice and coping tactics through case analysis.This thesis gives a full report on the interpretation practice and analyses.Chapter One gives a brief task description,introducing the project,assigned tasks,and the special requirements of interpretation;Chapter Two elaborates on the preparation,including collecting background information by keywords searching,building up glossary,analyzing speaker’s speaking style,and interpreting under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory;Chapter Three analyzes the difficulties encountered during interpreting and how the author solved it,by citing examples of the use of interpreting methods;the last Chapter,Chapter Four,ends with a reflection on the author’s shortcomings and with what the author had learned from this valuable experience.Through this paper study,the author sorts out the whole interpretation process and understands well how to solve similar difficulties in the future.
