| With the rapid development of computer and geographic information system(GIS)technology, the development and application of groundwater numerical models have been improved gradually. Therefore,it is of great benefit to understand and study the mathematical model of groundwater evaluation around the world and to ensure the coordinated development of resources and the environment. And it is helpful to ensure the sustainable development and utilization of groundwater resources. In the present translation report, the source texts are the internship translation task of the two geological and mining texts on Essex Valley Aquifer Groundwater Model Update Phase 3: Field Program and Alpart Residue Disposal Area and Effluent Management Master Plan.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s theory, the translator analyzed the difficulties in the translation and chose the appropriate translation methods to solve the problems based on the analysis of the source texts at lexical, syntactic, and textual level respectively. In translating the technical terms and abbreviations, the translator chooses the semantic translation method. Some translation methods and techniques such as literal translation, zero translation and mixed translation are used to ensure the accuracy and professionalism of the translation; In translating sentences with nominalization structure, sentences with passive voice and complicated sentences, the translator chooses the communicative translation method. Some translation methods and techniques such as conversion, split translation and reverse translation are used to achieve the communicative effect of the target texts. At the textual level, the translator mainly adopts lexical cohesion to improve the fluency of the translation.Through the analysis above, the translator expects that the translation methods and techniques in this translation practice report can be of some help for translators in E-C translation of geological and mining texts, especially in the hydrogeology field. |
