According to the 2015 population situation of Chinese children, facts and data released by UNICEF,there are 68.77 million left-behind children in China.Among them, there are a large number of left-behind children in rural areas, while left-behind children in poor rural areas grow slowly due to food insecurity.Studies have shown that left-behind children in poor rural areas grow slowly because of food insecurity, children from poor families have higher dropout rates, poorer cognitive and academic performance, and more behavioral problems. It is not hard to imagine a vicious cycle in which children from poor families have lower self-expectations and generally lower self-efficacy,and often end up with a higher proportion of lower-paying jobs as adults.According to the survey,27.6% of left-behind children have food insecurity, which is worthy of the attention of the society and the government and serves as a warning for improving the growing environment of left-behind children. This study also expands the theoretical model for exploring the factors influencing left-behind children’s academic performance and educational expectations. In this study, questionnaire survey was used to distribute 2202 and2202 valid questionnaires to left-behind children students in middle schools in 5 regions of hunan province by stratified random sampling.Univariate analysis of variance and regression analysis models were used. The results show that :(1)food insecurity has a significant negative correlation with left-behind children’s self-education expectations;(2)there is a significant negative correlation between food insecurity and left-behind children’s general self-efficacy.(3)the general self-efficacy of left-behind children plays an intermediary role in food insecurity,self-education expectation and academic performance. At present,China has launched a series of nutrition improvement projects for supplementary food, but there is no food subsidy policy for left-behind children, and the existing projects do not meet the needs of left-behind children. If we want to improve the situation of food insecurity of rural left-behind children,we still need relevant public policies to support.Shortcomings of this study: the dependent variable of this study is "educational expectation",which should be controlled for the influence of variables such as the educational background of parents and parents. The subjects of the study were concentrated in hunan province with regional limitations. All the subjects were junior high school students with age limitation.Future research can be optimized from the age range of left-behind children. The food insecurity of families of left-behind children can also be studied.
