| Based on the empirical analysis of two samples of Chinese Household Income Project Survey in 2013 and Chinese Family Panel Survey from year 2010 to 2016,this thesis makes an in-depth study on the differential impact of occupational gender composition on people’s wage and possible influencing channels. The study finds that there is a significant negative income effect on occupational gender composition in Chinese labor market, and male workers face a heavier wage loss than female workers.Holding all others constant, the proportion of female in one occupation increased by10 percent points, monthly wage for female workers will be decreased by 1.77% on average, while the men will be reduced by 2.59%.At the same time, this paper also suggests that occupational gender composition has a non-linear influence on people’s wage.As far as female workers are concerned, the wage punishment caused by the occupational gender structure is less for occupations where female workers are intensive(FEM50 + group)than for those with moderate female ratios(FEM25-50group).But for male employees, the wage loss they faced will be enlarged as the proportion of women in the occupation increases.Besides, this negative effect of occupational gender composition is heterogeneous to different subsamples.Male may face severe wage penalties in their golden period of career development, marriage makes women suffer the greatest wage loss, but the state-owned sector has a certain support and protective effect for wage loss caused by the occupational gender structure. In order to make the empirical results more accurate and reliable, this paper uses Synthetic iv method and fixed effect method to deal with the possible endogenous bias in the model. The results show that human capital is one of the possible mechanisms of this negative wage effect,so strengthening re-education and retraining of female groups is an effective measure to narrow down the gender wage gap. These conclusions provide a strong reference for the future career planning of Chinese female groups and the formulation of related welfare policies for enterprises. |
