Urbanization is the evolution process of the transformation of urban population structure, the improvement of economic level and the expansion of land scale. At present,China’s urbanization is still in the stage of rapid development. There are problems such as low per capita productivity, land production efficiency to be improved, and blind expansion of the city, which affect the sustainable and healthy development of urbanization. In order to solve the problem that the development of urbanization is uncoordinated and inadequate,it is an important task for geography to measure the synergy among population urbanization,Economic Urbanization and land urbanization. The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the synergy among population urbanization, land urbanization and Economic Urbanization in cities above prefecture level in China.First of all, based on GIS and RS technology, using DMSP / Los night light remote sensing data to obtain the national land urbanization development process in 2004-2016.Then,the coordination degree model and Tapio decoupling model are introduced to measure the synergy between population, economy and land urbanization. Finally, the paper evaluates and analyzes the coordination degree and decoupling characteristics of urbanization development, and summarizes the coordination characteristics in China’s urbanization development. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)In 2004-2016,the coordinated development of population urbanization and economic urbanization gradually improved. The overall growth rate was flat, with a cumulative growth of 18.9%.However,the overall level of coordination was low, with an average value of 0.1779,which was seriously unbalanced. The spatial distribution pattern is high in the East and low in the West. The average coordination degree in the East is 1.690 times of that in the West and 1.436 times of that in the middle. In terms of growth rate, there is a feature of fast growth in the West and slow growth in the middle. The highest growth rate in the west is 0.300,which has a large growth space. The growth rate in the East is 0.173,and that in the middle is 0.162.It can be seen that the central and western regions still need to balance the imbalance between population growth and economic development. In 2016,the number of prefecture level cities with negative growth decoupling was 124,accounting for 44.6% of the total. Most cities showed a state of increasing population urbanization and slow economic urbanization. It reflects that the population urbanization growth is obvious, but the degree of coordination with economic urbanization is not high.(2)From 2004 to 2016,the coordination of land urbanization and Economic Urbanization in China increased continuously, with a cumulative growth of 32.91%.In the type of decoupling, weak decoupling is the main one in China, accounting for 55.58%respectively,which shows that there is a trend of coordinated development between land urbanization and economic urbanization, but there is a phenomenon of land urbanization in advance. The difference of coordination degree between the East and the west is shrinking. In 2004,the coordination degree in the East is 75.6% higher than that in the west, and in2016,the difference is 51.0%.From the perspective of spatial pattern, negative decoupling of growth spreads to the south, and the sustainability of coordinated development in the south is improved. In 2004,the negative decoupling of growth spread from northeast and North China to the south, and in 2016,the number of negative decoupling of growth in East,South and southwest increased significantly. In 2008,the most obvious decoupling changes were found in central and East China, with 40 cities changing from weak decoupling to negative decoupling. In 2016,the growth rate of negative decoupling changed from weak decoupling to 49.6%.(3)In 2004-2016,the coordination degree of national land urbanization and population urbanization decreased first and then increased. In 2004-2014,the coordination degree continued to decline by 17.2%.The uncoordinated problems expanded year by year.After2014,the coordination degree improved significantly. In 2016,the overall coordination degree increased by 20.50%.In terms of the decoupling type, the growth of negative decoupling was the main one, accounting for 45.7% of the total. The growth rate of land urbanization was faster than that of population urbanization The main features of this period. From the perspective of spatial change, the coordination situation in the western region has improved significantly, with the largest increase of 0.029 in the average coordination degree, and 45.16% and 39.29% in the southwest and northwest regions,respectively.(4)From 2004 to 2016,the coordinated development of population, land and economy in China experienced a process of decreasing first and then increasing, with a cumulative growth of 6.71%.There are obvious differences in the coordination degree between the eastern region and the central and western regions. The coordination degree of the eastern region is 0.243,1.5 times of the central region and 1.72 times of the western region. The growth rate of coordination in the central region was the smallest, with 11.2% in the western region,7.0% in the eastern region and 5.2% in the central region. In contrast, the degree of coordination in the central and western regions is not high, and there is no significant growth trend in the central region. It is necessary to cultivate the growth poles in the central and western regions, enhance their development vitality, and realize the coordinated development of population, land and economic urbanization regions.
