Since the reform and opening up,China's economy has achieved rapid development. However, the extensive economic development model with high investment, high energy consumption and high pollution has caused serious environmental pollution problems and seriously hindered the high-quality economic development. As China's economy enters a stage of stable growth and emission reduction, informatization has become the key to achieving the dual goals of economic development and environmental protection.Under the background of deep integration of informatization and economic development,it is of great practical significance to study the impact of informatization on urban environmental pollution for promoting the construction of ecological civilization.Based on the existing literature, this paper studies the impact of informatization on urban environmental pollution from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives.First, from the theory of information and environmental pollution, the paper studies the impact mechanism of informatization on urban environmental pollution.Secondly, the development level of informatization and the status of environmental pollution in China are analyzed.Based on the panel data of 279 prefecture level cities in China from 2011 to 2016,the economic development level, fixed asset investment, foreign direct investment and government fiscal revenue are selected as control variables. This paper empirically studies the impact of informatization on urban environmental pollution by constructing fixed effect models. On the basis of benchmark regression, this paper analyzes the heterogeneity of regional and urban scale. This paper tests the mediating effect from three aspects of technological progress effect, industrial structure upgrading effect and population agglomeration effect. The results show that:(1)The development of informatization reduces the level of urban environmental pollution, which is still stable after a series of robustness tests such as controlling endogenous problems, replacing estimation methods and replacing variables.(2)Among the control variables, the level of economic development and fixed asset investment reduce the urban environmental pollution, foreign direct investment aggravates the urban environmental pollution, and the government revenue has no significant impact on the urban environmental pollution.(3)The pollution reduction effect of informatization development has regional heterogeneity and urban scale heterogeneity.Analysis of regional heterogeneity found that the pollution reduction effect of informatization development in the eastern region is stronger than that in the central and western regions.Analysis of urban scale heterogeneity found that the larger the city scale is,the stronger the pollution reduction effect of informatization development will be.(4)The results of intermediary effect show that the development of informatization can improve the environmental pollution by inducing the effects of technological progress, industrial structure upgrading and population agglomeration. Finally, from the reality of China's information development and environmental pollution, reasonable suggestions are put forward to improve the level of China's information development and environmental pollution control.
