Today's society is an era of knowledge explosion.Knowledge update, technology elimination and development are faster than any previous eras. Thus, teachers' educational philosophy and teaching method must keep pace with the times. It is of great importance to purposefully teach students the way of learning. The secondary vocational school students are weak in learning activeness and autonomy. They may find no appropriate learning methods. So the teachers are expected to instruct them to find the way of autonomous learning, cultivate their consciousness of class participation, and help them switch from passive learning to active learning, which could have two positive effects: the improvement of learning efficiency and autonomous learning ability.Through literature review and case study, this thesis studies the cultivation of autonomous learning ability in the teaching practice of Foundations of Math,by taking the first-grade students of one secondary vocational school in Yangquan City as the research object. It observed the students' autonomous ability in all aspects of teaching, and discussed the corresponding improvement methods.Among them, the independent learning ability involves the self-preparatory ability before class and Independent thinking ability in the class and summary and reflective ability after-school,are researched specifically. The following conclusions are made after the case study: first, secondary vocational school students are lack of activeness and ability in different degrees;second, various teaching strategies are proposed in cultivating and improving students' autonomous learning ability, such as setting learning objectives, stimulating learning motivation, creating exploration space and focusing on learning instructions;third, the application of these strategies at last lead to noticeable effect on students autonomous learning ability.
