The unified edition of Chinese textbooks sets up "self-reading texts" after "teaching reading texts",highlighting the importance of "self-reading" in language teaching and the development of students' language skills.Different from the situation that some teachers ignore the important of self-reading,Xiao Peidong has made a lot of teaching practice in teaching self-reading texts,formed a perfect art of teaching self-reading texts,which has certain applicability and great reference value.This paper therefore intends to use Xiao Peidong's teaching practice on self-reading texts as a grounding point.On the basis of the concepts,characteristics and requirements of teaching self-reading texts,Xiao Peidong's cases of teaching self-reading texts were firstly reviewed through literature research and case study methods,and his brilliant design of teaching self-reading texts was summarised in four aspects: "introduction","questioning","teaching evaluation" and "use of reading aid system".In this study,we summarise the subtle design of Xiao Peidong's teaching of self-reading texts in four areas and distil the teaching experiences that can be drawn from them.Secondly,to be able to apply the theoretical knowledge to the actual teaching,this paper compares the current situation of teaching self-reading texts presented in the interviews with the case of teaching self-reading texts by Xiao Peidong through the methods of interview and comparative analysis,and proposes targeted strategies in terms of both ideology and practice to provide comprehensive guidance for teachers to understand the editor's intention and realise the value of "self-reading".Finally,it summarizes many useful insights Xiao Peidong can give to teachers in teaching self-reading texts and in his own professional development,providing a clear path for teachers to persevere in teaching self-reading texts and improve their professional competence,so that they can creatively carry out self-reading teaching in the context of specific learning situations and teaching environments,improve the effectiveness of teaching self-reading texts,enhance the pedagogical value of self-reading texts,empower students to read independently,and lay the foundation for students' lifelong reading.
