History is a discipline that pays attention to the positive evidence of historical materials."Combination of history and theory,discussion from history" is not only the basic method of historiography research,but also the important content of highlighting the academic character of history.Therefore,China's middle school history textbooks have always attached great importance to the selection and use of historical materials as well as picture historical materials,which plays an irreplaceably important role in middle school history textbooks because of their vividness and intuitiveness.The unified edition of Chinese and Foreign History Outline,a compulsory high school history textbook published in 2019,not only follows the traditional practice of paying attention to historical pictures materials in traditional textbooks,but also presents some new features in terms of their contents and types.How to grasp scientifically the characteristics and teaching value of the historical pictures materials in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History,and maximize the teaching function of the picture historical materials is an issue being worth further exploration.This paper presents its selection,compilation and application strategy of the historical picture materials in the compulsory high school history textbook from four aspects.On the one hand,the characteristics of selecting and compiling the historical picture materials are summarized in the first part of the article by the method of combining statistics and comparison based on presenting comprehensively the situation of the historical picture materials in the outline of Chinese and foreign history and on the comparison between the United edition and the Experimented edition;On the other hand,the new textbooks' shortcomings in selecting and compiling historical picture materials are discussed while their advantages are fully affirmed at the same time.The second part focuses on analyzing the ways texts interpret pictures and pictures help understand texts in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History,and then summarizes the basic functions the materials of historical pictures have in teaching.The third part,closely sticking to the curriculum reform requirements and the cultivation goal of the core literacy of the history discipline,analyzes the main challenges the materials of historical pictures are faced with in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History from aspects of students and teachers respectively when they are put into teaching practice.The fourth part,taking the method of case analysis and the teaching design of the 11 th lesson "Economy and Society of Liao,Song,Xia,Jin and Yuan Dynasties" in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History(I)as an example,the fourth part explores the thinking and methods to properly use the materials of historical pictures in the textbooks.In this way some suggestions on properly using the materials of historical pictures in the textbooks are put forward to help optimize the methods of using them in the Outline of Chinese and Foreign History.
